Background

In a small Township of Stellenbosch emerged an 13 member acapella music group, Abaqondisi Brothers (Brothers of Understanding). Since establishment in 1992, they always wow the crowds with their magical voices whenever they perform. Performing in various languages, these musical sensations have forged unique harmony structures in various styles. Abaqondisi CD releases over the past 16 years are Ezulwini Lami, Umtheth' Uyavuma, Isifingo, Izwe Lesithembiso The Promised Land, Ilizwe Aliphucuki, "The spirit of healing" and the latest "Our Journey" as released by Merchant Records. Other than their day to day performances country-wide including a performance at President Mandela's 80th Birthday Bash, they also impressed dignitaries at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and 50 000 crowd in Germany during the Katholikentag Festival in 2004.

Their Performance History includes performances like: Children's Tower Launch Waterfront, Cape Town against crime initiative during Planet Hollywood bombshell, 50th Anniversary of Bakkels Bakeries, Corporate function Mauritius, SAA's Route Launch Abidjan Ivory Coast , Wingerdstok Rock Festival, Chartered Accountants International conference, Mamelani Reconnection concert with Obenda Norway, 10 ANC Elections '99 Musical Road shows, Journey To Dreams tour around Orange Free State, V & A Waterfront Events Waterfront, Rhythmic School of Music cultural exchange initiative Copenhagen: Denmark etc.

Abaqondisi shared the stage with various super stars like: Ringo, Stimela, Tkzee, Obenda of Norway, Sibongile Khumalo, Prophets of da City, Winston Mankunku, Jimmy Dludlu, Boom Shaka, Bongo Maffin etc. They also featured on various compilations like: Rugby World Cup 99, Die ANC Ruk in die Kaap, and recently donated a song to Trees for Life in America.



Their magical harmonies have sent waves to the rest of the world media circles when they performed both SA and Italian National Anthems during the Italian Rugby team's visit to South Africa.

Abaqondisi Brothers also appear frequently in Festivals, Private Functions, Corporate Functions, Wedding Receptions, Church Services, Public Events, Cultural Events, and Graduation Ceremonies etc.

Abaqondisi appeared on several Television programs like: Ezodumo, Gospel Gold, Peace Café, Ngomgqibelo, Real Vision etc.
