Joe Murphy
If it's all the same to you, I'll play that Bass Guitar!
Background: I'm from the good old town of Dittmer, I've been playing bass for almost 3 years now. My favorite music is definitely 60's, followed by 70's then 80's. I am influenced by such bass giants as John Entwistle (Who), Stanley Clarke, Geddy Lee (Rush), Victor Wooden, and many others. I play in two bands, The Smiley Face Pancakes and The Jeff County Blues Band (name pending change to Plenty of That). I play a peavey Five String Grind bass through a Peavey session 400. I am currently saving up to buy an ampeg 8-10 with a 300 watt all tube head. I've started to sing a little bit with the blues band and I'm beginning to take classes to refine my voice. I love music, particularly blues and classic rock, and that is how I play.
Interests: To play in a big gig this summer and hopefully make some respectable cash. Playing gigs is fun, but if your not making any money, they just aren't what they should be. No use doing all the work and getting nothing in return. I'm going to refine my slap technique so I can play like Stanley Clarke and I want to learn some of the moves Entwistle throws down during Who shows. Also, I want to refine the blues down to the point that I can play with any band, anywhere.
Goals: I am interested in being a doctor who plays bass in a band on weekends to make a few side notes (cash). I'm currently going to Mizzou which makes it difficult to practice with the bands, but it is worth it. I wanna keep getting better at the bass and start to sing, as well as starting to write some songs of my own for the bands to play. This summer my goal is to play in Memphis and the Pageant or Fox Theater. Big dreams, but I hope they come true.
