R&B Singer/Songwriter Mykel writes and sings every word from the heart. The Massachusetts native grew up in a small city south of Boston. The singer/songwriter writes and arranges all genres of music from R&B, Pop, and even House music. Inspired by the classic sound of old school Rhythm and Blues, Mykel knows how important it is to translate part of that in his music. Although singing and writing music is his first love, his ability to arrange, engineer, and mix his own records is what sets Mykel apart from a lot musicians. “I believe it is entirely important for an artist to be 100% connected with his/her music. For me it starts with creating and having full control of my sound” After high school Mykel’s ambition and appreciation for music grew greater. While in college, Mykel formed an R&B/Pop group with three other members. While recording and touring New England for three and a half years, the group split ways to explore their own musical abilities. Humbled and motivated by the experience, Mykel turned his focus to crafting his own music career as solo artist. After receiving his degree in 2007 at the University of Bridgewater, Mykel teamed back with ex-band members to form a writing team by the name of FinePrint Writing Group. While collaborating and writing for other artists for two years, Mykel aimed his focus on creating his debut project [Love, Sex & Mykel]. “Putting together a solo project is something I’ve never pictured myself doing, but once I heard what my first song sounded like, I fell in love.” Since the release of Love, Sex, & Mykel in January 2011, the album has close to 10,000 downloads, along with a YouTube channel of 35, 000 views. “Crafting a specific sound for my debut release was something I wanted people to most importantly recognize on this album.” Combining love and relationships, with passion and love-making was the goal for this EP. During the recording process of his album, Mykel has been no stranger to the stage. Opening for artist such as Ryan Leslie, VH1’s Olivia, Avant, Silk, Bobby Valentino and many more has been one of the most humbling experiences thus far in his career. In 2010, Mykel joined forces with another local talented music group. All sharing the same goals and dreams, Mykel and others would form one of Boston’s most talented music organizations BFMI [Boston FinePrint Music Inc.] The group consists of solo artists, producers, writers and management. “I respect my team so much. Everyone does their part, and everyone strives for the same goal. And that is why I believe we will a successful brand one day in the music industry.” Now, Mykel is awaiting his chance to break into the music game. With his upcoming sophomore project “LoveBox” he is looking to fill what’s missing in R&B today. “I feel like R&B music has lost a lot its authenticity, and I just want to change that.” With his heartfelt lyrics and soulful sound, Mykel wants people to simply fall in love.
