Next to take the stage was Austin's own Kenny Wayne Smith and the Kenny Wayne band. With drums and amplified instruments and a group of backup singers who could each have their own act, this group brought a change of pace to the evening as we went from unwinding from the past week to celebrating the present. Though his background may be in the black church, Kenny Wayne has a sound that transcends far beyond racial and cultural lines and has the potential to bring a greater since of unity to the Christian community. His career as a solo artist is fairly young but if this show was any indication, there are great things in store for him. Kenny has a vocal range that is unrivaled by many. In fact, the place where he shines the most is in his upper register where he produces tones that most church choirs WISH their soprano section could achieve!!Urban Life and Style - Austin
