BIO

Originally from Long Island, New York, Carla Seidl has lived on five continents and has served in the Peace Corps in three different countries. She studied at Harvard, where she created her own major called Expression and Culture Studies, combining writing, folklore, anthropology, music, foreign language, and dance.
Despite her early academic achievement, Carla has found greatest happiness off of the beaten path. She is always seeking to understand the world around her, and isn’t satisfied with trivial answers. It is this relentless searching and questioning that has given her such meaningful experiences over the years: in addition to serving in the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan, Togo, and Benin, Carla has completed an Outward Bound wilderness course, taught on the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador, mountain biked down the world’s most dangerous road in Bolivia, worked as a private cook, and done organic farming in Italy. Carla brings reflections and insights from her travels into her performances, sharing stories and unique perspectives so that audiences grow and learn as well as enjoy.
Carla released her debut album, Under My Skin, in 2009. Since then, when not using music to empower youth in West Africa, she has performed at such venues as The Bitter End in New York City, Book Revue in Huntington, New York, Blue in Portland, Maine, and Gitar Café in Istanbul, Turkey. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Goddard College.
