La Banda Skalavera is a Southern California Latin ska band formed of 10 musicians with a variety of musical backgrounds. Each member’s distinct style can be credited to their diverse musical upbringings ranging from Norteño, Banda, Salsa, Punk, Ska, Reggae, Metal and Cumbias. LBS (La Banda Skalavera) was formed in South Central Los Angeles in the Summer of 1998 by George (lead Singer). Jesus (aka Buddha), playing the Valve Trombone, joined the band in 1999. The List can go on and on naming venues throughout the U.S Playing as far as Chicago's Vary own Aragon Ballroom. As one of the first Latin ska bands in LA, initially LBS was not well received in the ska scene. Booking was difficult due to the incorporation of rhythms other than ska. Nonetheless, as exposure increased, this combination of music was easy for the youth of LosAngeles to relate to. Many of the youth, then and today, living in the blighted neighborhoods of Southern California find expression for individual frustrations through the lyrics and sounds of LBS. Personal life experiences have enabled the band to write these messages. However, their passion for bringing life to music can only be felt through their live performance. After nearly a decade of constant touring LBS was finally recognized in 2009 by winning an MTV VMA For Best Breakout artist Of L.A. The MTV VMA opened up a lot of doors for LBS Getting them a Deal With Ubersee Records in Germany widening LBS's fan base to Europe and South America. LBS recently won a Battle of the Bands That was sponsored by Ernie Ball and Acropolis Records giving them the chance to play The Warped Tour 2011 making them the first latin band to perform at the Warped Tour, and further expand their music to a new audience in the Anglo market.
