Music is my passion and performing is my high. As a young boy I was writing rhymes and poetry down on paper, influenced by the sounds of great artists like Biggie, Pac, Jay- Z, Big Daddy Kane, and KRS-1. At the age of 15 I recorded my first song. Filling spirals with songs I wrote in my spare time, I thought of it all as just a hobby back then, with the dream of performing on the “big stage” someday. I continued to write music and record whenever I could throughout college. I began performing and doing shows all over Florida in the late 90’s under an independent label out of Tampa, Fla., opening up for other unsigned artists at the time such as Plies, Trick Daddy, and Trina. By 1999 I had relocated back to Texas. After the passing of my grandmother that same year, I put the music aside for a while. As I reviewed my life I was reminded of the strength she instilled in me, the tenacity she taught me to have, and the drive she put behind me to move forward. Many of those emotions as well as trying times in my life were incorporated into my writing. Much of my music tells a story that others can relate to--whether it relates to their own situation in life or just in general what the world is experiencing. I believe that everyone has a talent and mine is a lyrical flow that comes natural in the booth and on stage. In the last two years I’ve dropped four mix tape’s and just dropped my debut album, Hustler On The Move. I had over 6 million views on myspace, shot a major video debuting my hit single from the album, “Get it Girl”..which can be seen on youtube along with other videos including performances while on tour with Slim Thug this year. I have been working with producer Mr. Lee who has done production for Pac, Wayne, Slim, Bun B, Scarface, Paul Wall, and Lil KeKe, to name a few. He produced 14 tracks on the album and we are currently working on my next album due out this fall. My goal is to put Texas and the Southwest back on the map and represent original Hip Hop and what it stands for. I’ve got something for the gangstas as well as the ladies. You can vibe and ride or get on the dance floor and shake it up...join the movement and lets put Texas back in the spotlight and Real Hip Hop and Rap back on the map. ------Gauge

GAUGE: Hustler on the Move – Music Review

October 11, 2011 By Ralph White In the late 1990′s, Gauge was already on the road and opening for acts like Trick Daddy, Plies and Trina. Fast forward to 2011, after touring with Slim Thug and over several million views on the Internet of his music video for the single, “Get It Girl”, from his debut LP, “Hustler on the Move” (Aqua Boogie Records), Gauge is ready to make the next move up; the kind of move you’d expect from someone who’s spent years hustling on the grind. Hooking up with mega-producer Mr. Lee, (Tupac, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Scarface…) who produced 14 of the 17 tracks listed on the CD, the two of them tracked music together that would appeal to both the gangstas and the ladies. As Gauge likes to say, “…you can vibe and ride or get on the dance floor and shake it up!” And ain’t that the truth my brothers and sisters? “Hustler on the Move” opens with “Wish 4 This”, a haunting mantra that showcases Gauge’s superb skills at spitting lyrics like lead coming out of a red hot Uzi barrel and hitting you with every shot. The album next seamlessly segues into a nasty little number titled, “Hot Love”, featuring none other that Scarface. The thick dark smoke was streaming from my stereo speakers now, baby. From there, we move onto a myriad of melodies where he’s joined by the likes of Young Chill, E 40 and Miss. Myke, until we’re then rewarded with the aforementioned radio single, “Get It Girl”. Without question, this is a joint that will make it on my bucket list of songs as one I need to hear another time before I go. Now as if that wasn’t enough, Gauge is reunited with tour mate Slim Thug on “Chunk A Stack” as well as getting Mr. Lee out from behind the soundboard and rapping into the mic. The three of them trade off lines and verses throughout the tense track and come together on the repeated, “…dirty, dirty hustler,” hook. Yowza! Yowza! Yowza!!!! On the following cuts Gauge gets a lending hip-hop hand from Zeal Truce, Joy, Bun B, Lil KeKe, Eyez Lo, Q and Kee$. I’ve always admired artist who aren’t afraid to share the spotlight with their contemporaries and Gauge shines bright alongside the best of the best. Here’s the wrap-up on “Hustler on the Move”, if you don’t own this record then I only have one question for you, “What’cha waiting on?” —————————

Fresh. Innovative. Real Hip Hop. These are a few thoughts that come to mind while listening to this artist, Gauge, making headway on the music scene. From his hit single, “Get it Girl”, whose music video received over one thousand views, to track, “Hot Love”, featuring acclaimed and legendary lyricist, Scarface, it is clear that Gauge is making a statement about real music.

“Hustler on the Move” gives insight to the diversity of the hip hop world through street heavy tracks like, Chunk a Stack” and “Can You Feel It”, featuring fellow Texas native, Slim Thug and lady friendly songs like “I Got You”, featuring Miss Myke. The arrangements boast an ironic blend of blatantly insipid and sometimes meaningless phrases that resonate in the mind and hold the listener ransom by its quaint but compelling artistry. The sound defies the social contrasts of musical trends and presents instead an innovative and tantalizing expression that may very well be the stepping stone on which contemporary music sore.

Gauge demonstrates the ability to capture life experiences and vision in his music through lyrics and beats inspired by the blends of the streets fused to old R&B house music samples on songs like “Touch the Sky” and “The Message.” The effort is masterful, yet naïve-an arresting display of musical genius.
