Erica Brady : Hello All :-) I am looking to hopefully get a new camera soon. Right now I use a Canon ps a560... I love all the color settings, but I would like something that gives me a bit more control over background or subject focus. I really dont know much about cameras, and because Im still new to photography, I'd like something that's not too complicated to use. Any suggestions?

Photo's By Jamie Smith : The Canon T2i is a exalent choice. The price is little more then a Xsi and with the chip from the (i think) 7D you will not be let down on image quality. The 18 megapixels allows you to crop 1/4 of the image and still create a 20x30 print. I know Nik has one thats all so a close compeditor, but from what I've seen, the Canon is still the top value.

Photo's By Jamie Smith : After re-reading this. I have to say it's less the camera and more the lenses. With a point and shoot you are limited to one lense. With a DSLR you have the ability to change to a more specific lens. A good example is the various prime lens (offered by most if not all manufactures). They have a fixed focus, with variable zoom. they will allow you to create images with the background/foreground blurry. So as far as cameras, it's like telling you what car to drive. If you have a friend who has a DSLR, ask if you can check out the various lens.

Michael Kissinger : I prefer Nikon and have been using a D60 for years. I purchased a D3000 for my girl and I like the 3" display more than my 2.5"(obviously), but both are great cameras. I've only ever used Nikon so I can't comment on other brands

Jennifer Barker : Has anyone tried out the Sony DSLR's? I am too looking for a DSLR. I have a Fujifilm Digital, but it doesn't come with interchangeable lenses. I looked at Consumer Reports and the Sony cameras were rated pretty high, but Canon was still the best, just cost a pretty penny.

Daniel Castanho : Hi! Any dslr will give you control over backgrounds if you stick to large apertures and get close enough or try the manual focus (thrusting in your viewfinder).
The advantages of a more expensive dslr are low light photos and better ergonomics
    Have fun with your photos.

Daniel Castanho : Never used one Sonny, although i use a nikon i believe that a careful prevision/planning in your photos will produce better results than expensive cameras. I still beilieve that lenses play a important role in versatility (large apertures get photos where tripods were needed).
