So I guess I'll talk about what I'm working on.
I'm hoping by the end of the year to have a new demo out so I can upload new songs.
Because I do covers of older songs and Broadway numbers in the past I just did whatever songs I felt I was really good at. This time around it's going to be a bit different.
See, I'm going to do a theme this time. I'm concentrating on songs that were recorded at some point by someone who died young.
Now I think anyone who dies before 120 dies young, but I decided to keep it at the under-60 set because if I chose someone who was in their 70s when they died people would be annoyed. I guess I'm the only person in the world who thinks 70 is young. LOL
Here's the list -
Glenn Miller - Moonlight Cocktail
Buddy Holly - Raining In My Heart
Elvis Presley - You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
Billie Holiday - Me, Myself, & I
Mama Cass - Dream A Little Dream
Karen Carpenter - Rainy Days & Mondays
John Lennon - Yesterday
Marilyn Monroe - Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend
Michael Jackson - I'll Be There
Maurice Gibb - How Deep Is Your Love
I chose the Marilyn number, though she's known more for her acting then her singing, because I realized I had almost all ballads and otherwise slow songs. I even changed my mind on the Billie Holiday song several times before settling on Me, Myself, & I.
I do wish, seeing how Holly was a composer as well as a singer, I could've found a song he composed. However I couldn't. I'm still looking for one in particular just because I love it so - True Love Ways. I'm also trying to find the sheet music for a number Mel Tormé did, The House Is Haunted (By The Echo Of Your Last Goodbye) but no luck on either so far.
I'm also desperately seeking someone whom lives close to Costa Mesa, CA, and who knows a bit about making videos for YouTube - even if they just make videos of their pets doing weird things - to help me make a few. I can't find any that don't cost $3,000 - I can't even afford $300! It would be nice if we could do some sort of labor exchange. I do something for them that they need done and they help me with the videos. I just want to make three or four at the most anyway to show what I can do and to use for when I submit auditions. I tried my friends who make indie films - saying I'd happily be an unpaid extra or even haul gear and stuff for them for a full day (that I have off from my day job) PLUS pay for the DVDs to record on - if they would help me with this. Their response, "Go ask on Craigslist."
Yeah, not going to happen. Too many weirdos on there. I'm more likely to find someone who wants to chop me into little pieces then someone who'll help me make audition videos. Only good thing to come out of Craigslist - "Weird" Al Yankovic's song that he does in the style of Jim Morrison.
ANYWAY - that's what I'm working on. Hopefully I'll have it done before the end of the year. I've got some polishing to do on some of the songs. I've never done Motown before, for instance. However, I know I can do it. There's no reason I can't.
