Ice Carnation

Verbesina Virginica L. Frost weed, or ice weed, as it is informally called, grows plentifully in Texas. When the temperature drops to near freezing, the cold forces the sap out of the plant's stem. As the air temperature drops below freezing, the oozing fluid begins to freeze, creating some beautiful flower-like formations. Each plant creates a unique shape. Each time it freezes, the plant creates a new frost "flower," completely different from any other it has created before.
